RadioTuner & new Intel-Mac

As of the time of this posting, RadioTuner is not compatible with the new intel macs. Sorry.
The issue is that RealPlayer is not yet available as a universal binary (i.e., it does not run natively). Dashboard on the other hand runs natively (of course) and so the two components just don't like working together.

You probably notice that a live stream works in the standalone RealPlayer. You'd think that it should work in RadioTuner too, right? RadioTuner uses the RealPlayer Plug-in... try listen to the same live stream embedded in a webpage (you'll find plenty of them here). If you use a browser that runs natively (e.g., Safari) the stream will not play. This is the exact same problem you encounter with RadioTuner: RealPlayer Plug-in is not universal, Safari is.

So, until RealPlayer is available as a universal binary you won't be able to use RadioTuner. But hey, you still have a cool intel mac. :)

Cheers,
Markus

    Hi,

won't it be possible to use a non intel version on a Intel-Mac to get it work with rosetta?

I'm not able to find any "old" versions for download and it's not possible to open the intel version in rosetta...

Maybe you can put a non-intel version for download to try it out...?

Widgets are not compiled code and, therefore, any widget should work the same on an Intel-Mac as it does on a PPC-Mac. Unfortunately, this only works if the widget does not use any plug-ins (like the RealPlayer plug-in).
There is more about this on the Apple site:
    http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2005/qa1451.html

To make the RadioTuner work with the current RealPlayer plug-in, one would have to start Dashboard under Rosetta. Is that possible?

    Hi,

I'm a OS-X Newbie. Can you please explain why RadioTuner will not run on 10.2.8? Is this because it uses the 10.4 dashboard?

    thanks,
    b.

    Hi,

RadioTuner is a widget and, therefore, only runs in Dashboard. Dashboard was introduced in 10.4... if you have an earlier version, without Dashboard, it won't run.... no Dashboard, no widget. ;)
This is true for any widget that has been designed for Apple's Dashboard.

    Markus, your widget rocks. Dankeschön!!

The links for DLF and DLR Kultur on the RadioTuner Site need updating - I just subscribed and got a voice from DLR telling me they are no longer useable. Just FYI :)

    Hi Markus,

I have a Macbook 2.0Ghz Intel core duo, and I have installed the latest version of Real. The widget works, but the radio keeps cutting all the time, which doesnt happen when I'm streaming directly with Real... Any ideas why ?

    Thanks

Thanks for info. I have been driving myself crazy since December (from time to time) trying to get the Radio Tuner to work on my Intel Mac's Dashboard. I did find lots of good stations that I can link to directly for streaming (WXRT Chicago!)

RadioTuner ist ein tolles Programm. Sollte etwas ähnliches jemals für ein Handy Nokia N95 entwickelt werden können?
