Support for RadioTuner ended

I am sorry to inform that support for the RadioTuner widget has ended. I simply don't find the time anymore to keep working on this widget. You can still enjoy the widget but there won't be any future updates.

Thanks,
Markus

RealPlayer 10.1 - Universal... RadioTuner too!

Hi everybody,

I have been really, really pleased with the popularity of the RadioTuner widget. It's great to make a difference in the Mac-World.

Today, real.com has released a new version of their RealPlayer... and, yipee, it's a universal binary. Now, theoretically, the RadioTuner widget works on Intel Macs.
Unfortunately, I don't have one of those fancy new Macs. Any feedback from an Intel Mac user that has tried the RadioTuner widget? Please.

Cheers,
Markus

RadioTuner & new Intel-Mac

As of the time of this posting, RadioTuner is not compatible with the new intel macs. Sorry.
The issue is that RealPlayer is not yet available as a universal binary (i.e., it does not run natively). Dashboard on the other hand runs natively (of course) and so the two components just don't like working together.

You probably notice that a live stream works in the standalone RealPlayer. You'd think that it should work in RadioTuner too, right? RadioTuner uses the RealPlayer Plug-in... try listen to the same live stream embedded in a webpage (you'll find plenty of them here). If you use a browser that runs natively (e.g., Safari) the stream will not play. This is the exact same problem you encounter with RadioTuner: RealPlayer Plug-in is not universal, Safari is.

So, until RealPlayer is available as a universal binary you won't be able to use RadioTuner. But hey, you still have a cool intel mac. :)

Cheers,
Markus

RadioTuner version 1.0 is here!

What is new in this version:
  • - much improved streaming
  • - no problems switching stations
  • - new graphical user interface
  • - interface displays RealPlayer status (i.e., contacting, buffering)
  • - does not use any processing resources when not in use
  • - checks if the RealPlayer plugin is installed

RadioTuner Version 1.0 Coming Soon

After receiving some helpful bug reports, I am working on an improved version of RadioTuner. It is almost ready and will have the following improvements:
- much improved streaming.
- no problems switching stations
- does not use any processing resources when not playing
- new graphical user interface

So far it is much, much more stable and all I have to do is to debug it before I post it here.

Stay tuned,
Markus
